There is a variable dbExpHistory which is undefined in DOORS 8.3.
Should it be exchanged?
Here is the snippet of code (from CreateBL.dxl):
// get contents of location field
int selectedElem = get(dbExpHistory)
string selectedPath = get(dbExpHistory, selectedElem)
The error message is as follows:
-E- DXL: <Line:398> incorrect arguments for function (get)
-E- DXL: <Line:398> undeclared variable (dbExpHistory)

Re: Baselining does not work after upgrading from DOORS 8.1 to DOORS 8.3 SystemAdmin - Wed Jun 01 13:04:38 EDT 2011
Well the error message "undeclared variable (dbExpHistory)" maybe is the key here. Your 8.1 installation might have had the DXL auto-declare functionality on, but the new 8.3 environment not.
See the "Auto-declare" section in DXL Help, but please do not switch it off - it is better to declare all variables.

Thanks for the tip, but unfortunately it did not solve the problem.
The startup.dxl was exactly the same in 8.3 as it was in 8.1.
Maybe it would help to declare the variable, but how?
What in DOORS DXL keeps track of the folder structure on the left hand (and can extract the folder currently selected?)

Additional information:
In DOORS 8.1 it was also used in DOORS_8.1\lib\dxl\config\baseWindowShow2.inc but in DOORS_8.3\lib\dxl\config\baseWindowShow2.inc the usage
setGotFocus(dbExpHistory, baseComboGotFocusCB)
setGotFocus(dbExpFavorites, baseComboGotFocusCB)
was removed.
I can't find anything pointing to why it was changed. There is no history description in the baseWindowShow2.inc. But there is a note that DOORS 8.1 uses version 4 of the file and DOORS 8.3 uses version 6 of the file.
Both dbExpHistory and dbExpFavorites was used only in this file and I can't find where they are declared...
It's seems like a big mystery to me...

One more note: It seems like the dbExpHistory has disappeared from the dbExplorerGlobals.inc, but I cannot verify that, as it is encrypted in some way...

Hmm ... relying on undocumented DOORS Explorer variables brings that kind of problem. The dbExpHistory is the location combobox of the database explorer. Maybe it would be better if you used the getSelectedItem() or getTreeSelectedItem() function to get what is actually selected in the DOORS explorer. See this post for the usage of this functions:

Maybe this helps, Regards, Mathias

Hmm... (for me, too). This script was bought from Telelogic in 2003...
I suppose IBM can't keep track of all Telelogic scripts they have sold.
But thanks for the input. I have been searching like a maniac on Google trying to find a way to get to the location combobox of the database explorer, but couldn't find it.
I need to trim my googling skill. (Now in afterhand, googling on: 'DXL currently selected folder' popped up the thread you linked to right in my face...)
Anyways - the solution worked like a dream.
Many thanks!

"I need to trim my googling skill".
Now what I'm about to say isn't related to DOORS, but that statement is extremely relevant in this "age". During the "Industrial Age", prosperity was linked to one's ability to produce. During the "Information Age", starting at about 1960, prosperity was linked to those who could find relevant information effectively.
With all the information now available "on-line" we are entering a new age. Posterity will call it something else but I'll call it the "Filtering Age". We already have access to most of the information we need. Prosperity is now linked to those who can filter and ignore the information they do NOT want, thus leaving that which they do.
You notice BING but also Google are now doing fuzzy subjective searches to get what they think you "intend", partly based on what you "intended" in the past: if three folks each search for "buttons", one may get more "Dialog Box" hits, another more "Blouse" hits, and the last more "Irritating people" hits. This will get much better in the coming years and soon you will be able to say (no need to type) "I wonder about XYZ" and you will get great information about XYZ in a 3-D virtual prioritized GUI, without the 1000s of sites with XYZ BS.
And in a pathic attempt to make this relevant to this forum: those who express their "intentions" better will continue to get better responses. OK, there is direct relevance: the forums search field should allow for "and" and "not" searches: I want to search for "destroy" and "louie" to get a post I made about that in the past; right now that gives me any post with either of those words.
If certain domineering companies get their way it will called the "BING Age".

I totally agree with you, Louie.
And I think it applies to DOORS as well as BING and Google.
The filter in DOORS should be smarter, like giving me a set of possible misspelled requirements.
For example if I filter on "mroe" the filter should ask if I meant "more", or if I filter on "more", it should give me a set of requirements containing "more" and a subset of requirements containing "mroe"...
That is also part of the "Filtering Age", I believe.
